Oakton is open with lap swimming available 6-8AM Monday through Friday. The
Park Ridge Penguins practice from 6-7 PM Monday, Wednesday and Thursday,
masters swimmers are welcome to attend our practice. The
water is great, clear and ranging from 78-80 degrees depending on night time
temperature.
Thanks to massive support from the swimming community, a motion made at the
June 17th Park Board meeting to close the pool at the end of this season
failed to pass. The pool remains on "do not resuscitate" status meaning that
any major mechanical or structural problem making the pool unusable
will not be repaired. Moreover the
Park Ridge Park district will not provide additional funding to make the many
cosmetic repairs needed, such as painting the pool,
to make the pool more attractive to patrons. So we may get another season or
two from this pool, but the end is still near.
